FAQ

Do spaces count as characters?

Both counts are shown. “Characters” includes spaces and line breaks; “Characters (no spaces)” leaves out all whitespace.

How are words counted?

Any run of characters between spaces or line breaks is one word, so “well-known” and “3.5” each count once.

How is reading time estimated?

It assumes an average reading speed of about 200 words per minute and rounds to the nearest minute.

How do you count sentences?

Sentences are counted by terminal punctuation (. ! ?), so most prose is counted accurately, though unusual punctuation may be approximate.

Is there a character limit?

No — paste as much as you like. Everything is counted locally in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
